Only At Niko's in Duluth- Made In America, By Duluth's own to celebrate 4th July and every other Good Times!!!

Hello Friends,

To celebrate America's landmark 250th Independence Day by pouring exceptional, American and Duluth’s own made wine, we proudly give you Niko’s New release - 2018 Nikoonj ‘Coombsville’ Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa

Niko started making wine about 10 years ago, starting with an exceptional vintage of 2012 in Napa. Niko makes his wine with Steve Raynolds - one of the best winemakers in Napa who owns multiple vineyards in Napa and is known for his innovative winemaking techniques. Our 2018 Coombsville Cabernet greets the glass with a splash of dark, inky purple

While most of Napa Valley can reach soaring temperatures during the warm season, Coombsville’s location at the South Eastern end of Napa makes it about ten degrees cooler. It’s close to San Pablo Bay, resulting in foggy mornings and cool evenings. The weather is more moderate than the rest of Napa—it doesn’t get as hot in summer or as cold in winter. The vines wake up earlier in spring but are typically picked later in harvest. Of the over 70 vineyards in Coombsville, no two are alike. A variety of microclimates with distinct weather pockets make the terrain incredibly diverse. The picturesque landscapes - with charming farmland, steep hillsides, and old oak groves - produce nuanced fruit and bespoke, small-batch wines.

VINTAGE NOTES

The 2018 growing season was long and cool with rainfall that visited us

during optimal times of the year. The temperatures were moderate

and even with no major heat spikes. These growing conditions resulted

in a long hang time allowing the full spectrum of aromas and flavors

to develop until the September harvest. The Coombsville AVA is located

in the south of Napa Valley. The cooling Petaluma Gap winds sweep

this AVA contributing to the cooler climate, resulting in an extended

ripening window that leads to highly pigmented, well developed

grapes at harvest.

Tasting Notes

This is a showstopper vintage, with loads of ripe, fresh, bold, dark berry fruits on the nose and palate, supported by a big concentration and incredible depth. Layers of blackcurrant, blackberry, black raspberry and dark plum sit alongside wild chaparral notes of lavender, mint, and anise. Beautiful lifted notes of cedar, cinnamon, and sweet rose petal also pique interest, leading to finely textured tannins and a supple mouthfeel, with mouthwatering acidity and a finish that goes on and on. Coming from a cooler appellation within Napa, this Cabernet has intensity and finesse, with a generous structure and focus. The balance of power and aromatic lift is impressive, giving a nose of black currants, bitter chocolate, licorice, graphite, earth, wet stones and a lovely earthy, herbal undertone. The palate is full-bodied with mouthwatering tannins, pure acidity and complex flavors of blue, black and red fruit underneath the mineral-edged and earth-driven notes. Complex and multi-layered, drinking wonderfully now and is sure to age well in years to come. Drink or hold…..

Happy 4th of July to all and have a safe holiday.
