VINOS LIBRES

"JUST HONEST WINES"

WINES FROM WINEMAKERS AND GROWERS THAT WORK IN HARMONY WITH NATURE ... ALL OF THEM FARM SUSTAINABLY AND MOST FARM ORGANIC, FOLLOW BIODYNAMIC PRINCIPLES AND ONLY DRY-FARM.
GRAPES ARE HARVESTED BY HAND & FERMENTATION OCCURS NATURALLY WITH NATIVE YEAST STRAINS THAT FLOURISH ON HEALTHY VINES. WINES ARE OAKED ONLY TO HELP THEM AGE AND TO GIVE THEM A KEEL FOR A LONGER JOURNEY.
WE SEEK HONEST WINES WITH A DEEP SENSE OF PLACE -  WINES THAT EXPRESS  " EL TERRUAR Y LA UVA"  BUT MOST OF ALL WINES THAT ARE FUN TO DRINK AND CALL OUT FOR GOOD FOOD.

Bodegas Fontana Oveja Blanca Dry Muscat

Bodegas Fontana Oveja Blanca Dry Muscat

Intensely aromatic and expressive, with aromas reminiscent of lychees, grapefruit and rose petals. Light bodied, very fresh on the palate, the fruit is perfectly balanced by the crisp acidity and a dry, mineral finish.

Bodegas Fontana Oveja Blanca Dry Muscat is praised for its vibrant citrus, melon, and apple notes. Many appreciate its balanced sweetness and crisp finish. While some highlight its peach and floral tones, others enjoy its clean, dry profile. The wine's lively character and playful label design add to its appeal, though opinions vary on its minerality and acidity. Overall, it's a delightful and approachable wine.

VINOS MARINOS "EL NEPTUNO"

100% ALBARIÑO

Vinos Marinos Albarino el Neptuno

This Albariño shows white flowers, peaches and a hint of sea water backed by a mineral backbone with a fresh lemon-lime finish.

Some coastal wines take on a marine personality worthy of El Neptuno and his mermaid daughters, and this is such a wine. This tasty Albariño is made from old vines grown in granite + slate soils with salty marine breezes, by proud farmers in the Condado do Tea subzone of Rias Baixas. This area is the best place on earth for this unique aromatic white variety.   Most of these micro-wine farms are   near the banks of the  Miño River Estuary and are greatly influenced by the Atlantic Ocean, covering and cooling the vines with marine fog.  Weather here is very special, with mild rainy winters and spring - but  overall this is one of the driest zones of Rias Baixas with very healthy and balanced fruit.Soils are very poor in nutrients, with high acid content and well drained sandy-alluvial soils with slate and a lot of granite giving this wine extra complexity. Trellised in traditional Pergola system -  high above the ground for maximum air flow. These vines are hand-harvested into small aerated boxes     and rushed to the winery early in the morning. The grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks after a soft pressing to preserve freshness and energy. Under 1000 cases produced.

We paired this delightful classic Spanish white with a lemony broiled halibut and sautéed broccoli & carrots for a perfect match at Mr. Shrimp, but you can pair with it with all seafood, shellfish, salads and mild cheeses, especially Sheep's milk Manchego with cured meats and Marcona almonds from Spain.

Vinos Marinos is a "Farm Proud" collaboration between Vinos Libres (a great Spanish wine importer based in NYC) and a group of family farms that created a winery in Condado do Tea. As a farm-based project, the land and vines are treated with great respect and farming is sustainable and as natural as possible.

El Jefe (Grande) Tempranillo

El Jefe (Grande) Tempranillo

The El Jefe (Grande) Tempranillo has a pretty ruby red robe color when poured into the glass.  The fruit is crushed, fermented and aged in breathable concrete tanks to allow the natural aromas to develop and the pour forth with pure, fresh aromas of bing cherry, fresh fig, raspberries, red plum and dried herbs.  Silky soft tannins surround a palate blanket of red berry fruits and supple (gulpable) finish.  This wine is a party in a bottle with enough to share.  Slipping in at under 13% alcohol, it makes for a great wine with tomato sauces, lasagna, pizza, meatballs to hamburgers, or drunken goat cheese.
